Classic car insurance?

Post by Oisín » Wed Apr 22, 2015 6:07 pm

I was just wondering would it be possibly for a 17 year old to get classic car insurance? Even as a named driver?

Don't believe so. My understanding is you have to be 25 for classic insurance. I may be wrong

No.

Classic insurance is a type of piggy-back policy. It's like a top-up add-on to your existing personal car policy.

You'll find there are age restrictions on the car as well, many companies won't insure novice drivers on cars over 15 years old.

Try McCarthy insurance group they are in sandyford i have been with them from when i was 22 but as long as you have a full licence 3yrs or more and a 3 yr no claims they will insure you and its €240 with my dad on it and breakdown and home start and all the stuff. nice people to deal with too. just paid mine other day €170.
good luck getting sorted

How much did they charge you?

I had been with them for 15 years or so until they bumped up my premium this year by over 75%!!
for no apparent reason!

I had been paying around 200 per year for the last few years, with ALL modifications declared,
this year they said they had nothing on record of any of my modifications and as such the underwriter came back with a price of 365

Would be cheaper if I was over 25

As far as I know..... The main part of a classic policy is that you have a car or van policy in your own name before you can get classic... this is to ensure your not just getting it to use as cheap ins for daily driving... I was putting my wife on as named driver and she had to have her own ins... which she did but that's why they do it.. a named driver is not a problem just they need their own policy too
