the new rear one I fitted had been only lightly painted, so i gave it a good coat of red-lead, including thinning it out and swirling it around inside the box-sections, then some heavy trawler grade paint which took about a week to dry - finally waxoyl after fitting & assembly. Imho if the spare dizzy is in good shape and is correct for the engine, use it.

High Performance ignition only really starts being useful for modded or competition engines.

AFAIK only the copper 'S' and MG 1300GT had double valve springs. Whats wrong with the distributor? Might be possible to get it re-built. the weights, springs & vacuum control the advance curve, specific to each type of engine. eg. the distro for a Metro 1.3 HLE would be quite different from the MG ...

this time of year the big loads on the battery, after cranking, are lights, heater & wipers. HiFi/radio etc only drains a fraction of what your lights do. check that the alternator/water pump belt is not too worn and correctly tight - if its loose it the alternator wont provide full charge. then che...
