Re: Ciarans 1380 Cooper

Been mad busy with work and got stuck on permanent nights for most the summer which screwed up any plans. Anyways on a better shift now and have eventually got moving on the project. First step, strip down the Cooper, Which is deteriorating at a impressive rate now, im not so sure if the outer sills...

Re: Adding turbo to mini engine

Paul hickey aka "merlin" did a good bit of it back a few years ago. I don't know what he's doing now however. From what I understand you need to drop the compression ratio and fit new pistons, rods, hardens crank and oil jets for the pistons are needed too. I also hear you need a different head set ...

very fast 1.3 fuel injection engine.
Statements like this on donedeal set off the aul bullshit detector, the place is full of spoofers like that trying to sell scrap.
Leaving a car in primer out in the open is also a fairly good sign of a cowboy.

vizards yellow book is something you need to read if your messing around with the A series like that. If your looking for power either more capacity or go forced induction IMO.
A 998 will really top out about 60bhp if I remember .

Re: Ciarans 1380 Cooper

Basically due to finishing college and getting a real job, I had to relocate down the west a few years ago, so the mini was used to get down until I got enough $$ for a modern car (clio 182). Unfortunatley this was pretty much what pushed the car from needed a bit of welding to needing a miracle. Du...

Re: Seized engine. need help!

Pour some wd40 down the bores and leave it for a day, then pour some engine oil down , and gently move the crank pully up and down to free it, obviously while the plugs are out.

It's will probably need a slight hone, although , it might be saved by gently using scotch Brite and wd40 on the rust

It may be this car, think it was in Dundalk. http://www.irishminis.ie/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=9844 ritz 998 may be able to fill you in. Didn't make a Cooper in '87 . 1.3 wasn't available in '87. Looks like its been sprayed in a warehouse not a heated spraybooth. Could be any car. No VIN plates on...

Re: Some advice on either a reshell or resto.

Anyways I was talking to michael from lyons garage before christmas and he seemed to know his stuff. He recomended a reshell which they can supply for around the 3k mark, which is a fair whack of cash, which being honest id rather sink into my own shell as its been with me since I started driving. ...

Re: Some advice on either a reshell or resto.

To be fair , how would anybody know if it's a ringer or not if the scuttle has been changed? Fact is on minis at least you can reshell a car and just stamp it yourself with your old vin and nobody would know. Now obviously you'd know if a 68 vin is on a mpi shell. The law is silly. Legally you can r...

Imported in 1994 into Donegal from uk, lived with a woman in clondalkin for a bit if anybody knows the car? I'd be interested to hear.
Tbh there's very little rust and in mini terms negligible.

Re: Some advice on either a reshell or resto.

Just on the chassis number, what happens when you change the scuttle panel (my one has been changed and doesn't have a chassis stamp anymore, just a plate on the inner wing). You're going to have fun getting that through todays NCT. Ill stamp it myself, tbh I doubt it will get that far , the engine...

I know it was clean but it would be a sin to rip it apart for the shell , somebody could get alot of enjoyment out of that car , it's ideal for somebody starting out with classics. Did it go?

Re: Some advice on either a reshell or resto.

First thing is you cannot legally reshell a mini in Ireland, the shell carries the chassis number and that is what is registered. If you buy one of these other shells you should be runnung it on its own registration or if caught the car could be siezed and distroyed. You get what you pay for so if ...

Some advice on either a reshell or resto.

Hi, Ive been on the lookout for a donor shell for my mini for the last few months. The search has been fairly difficult Ive viewed a few decent cars but they were not what I was looking for. I viewed a shell in cork at the weekend, a 88 Jetblack that had most of the hard work done, but still needed ...
